Understanding The Anointing Part 4

Tuesday November 15, 2022

God did not make Gideon a new promise.

He was instead commanded to use the strength he already had; the strength he did not acknowledge.

The church does not need a new power. We already have the Holy Spirit. We just need to learn how to work with Him.

Acknowledging the Presence of God.

  1. Walk before the Lord. Don't ignore Him. Live with the consciousness that He sees you completely.  Abraham was instructed to walk before the Lord. Samuel walked before the Lord.

  2. Refer to Him frequently.

  3. Be convinced that apart from Him everything we do will amount to nothing.

John 15:5-8 “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing. 6 Anyone who does not remain in me is thrown away like a useless branch and withers. Such branches are gathered into a pile to be burned. 7 But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted! 8 When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples. This brings great glory to my Father.

Psalm 127:1 Unless the Lord builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted. Unless the Lord guards a city, guarding it with sentries will do no good.

1 Corinthians 3:11-15 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one we already have— Jesus Christ. 12 Anyone who builds on that foundation may use a variety of materials- gold, silver, jewels, wood, hay, or straw. 13 But on the judgment day, fire will reveal what kind of work each builder has done. The fire will show if a person’s work has any value. 14 If the work survives, that builder will receive a reward. 15 But if the work is burned up, the builder will suffer great loss. The builder will be saved, but like someone barely escaping through a wall of flames.

  • We always pray, asking God to work with us. The early church never asked for that. He simply worked with them.

Mark 16:20 And the disciples went everywhere and preached, and the Lord worked through them, confirming what they said with many miraculous signs.

Acts 2:41; 47 41 Those who believed what Peter said, were baptized and added to the church that day— about 3,000 in all…. 47 all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day, the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.

  • What did they do to make that happen?

They had a healthy relationship  with God's word and with His Holy Spirit.

  • A healthy relationship with the word always produces faith and transformation.

(obedience: Joshua 1:8; James 1:22

Joshua 1:8 Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate onit day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.

James 1:22 Don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you nare only fooling yourselves.

  • If we believe wrongly we will hope wrongly,  pray wrongly, act wrongly.

Let us look at the fruits of our lives as indicators of what we believe, the quality of our beliefs.

James 3:13-16 If you are wise and understand God’s ways, prove it by living an honorable life, doing good works with the humility that comes from wisdom. 14 But if you are bitterly jealous, and there is selfish ambition in your heart, don’t cover up the truth with boasting and lying. 15 For jealousy and selfishness are not God’s kind of wisdom. Such things are earthly, unspiritual and demonic. 16 For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, you will find disorder and evil of every kind.

  • A healthy relationship with the Holy Spirit always leads to prayer.

(dependence:

Luke 24:49 “And now,I will send you the Holy Spirit, just as My Father promised. But stay here in the city until the Holy Spirit comes and fills you with power from heaven.”

1 Samuel 30:6-8

2 Samuel 5:17-25)

Moses and David knew how to depend on God. Saul and Samson, not so much.

Judges 16:20; Psalm 51:11

Acts 13:1-3

Those who depend on the Holy Spirit will pray, and they will not pray amiss.

Daniel 10:12

Romans 8:26

James 4:3

Romans 11:29

The charisma of God is never withdrawn, but His Presence, the anointing,  can be withdrawn.

Jesus emphasized our dependence on the Holy Spirit

Luke 24:49; John 6:63; John 15:5

The Holy Spirit is given to guide us not to grant our desires.

Too many of us are trying to guide the Holy Spirit

John 16:13

When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth.

Romans 8:14, 26,27

  1. They believed. (Without full persuasion that Jesus was the Christ, all the other steps will be impossible.

  2. 1 John 1:1-4

  3.  They tarried (not rush.) Acts 1:4-5

  4. They met frequently in unity for prayers.

    Acts 1:14,

    Luke 18:1

  5. They witnessed Christ boldly. (Refused to be shut down by the authorities even at great personal risk.)

  6. They resisted distractions.

    Acts 6:1-7

Anything that draws us away from prayer and the word is a distraction.

  7. They judged sin within themselves.

    2 Corinthians 13:5;

    1 John 3:7-10

  8. They judged sin among themselves.

    Acts 5:1-11
