Apply the Gospel to Thyself Part 1
APPLY THE GOSPEL TO THYSELF Part 1
The Gospel is the culmination of the ageless word of God. All of the Bible, the law, the prophets, the gospels, the poetry, the historical accounts and epistles all lead to and flow from the gospel.
Gospel Summary:
God, man, purpose, problem and solution.
God: Creator, Owner, Ruler, Father,
Man: Crown of God’s Creation, Child in God’s image
Purpose: Man to be an extension of God’s creativity, ownership, dominion on earth and caretaker on earth.
Problem: The Devil, Sin (subversion of God’s purpose), Justice (restoration of God’s purpose.)
Solution: Jesus, Sacrifice (Redemption cost God more than creation) Propitiation (merciful execution of justice.)
The Gospel has to do with persons… God, Man, Satan and Jesus.
What to Do with the Gospel
We hear the word. We study the word. We memorize the word. We preach the word. We teach the word. We apply the word.
God through the ages…
God in Nature, God through the law, God through the Gospel.
Nature:
Romans 1:20 NLT —
For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.
The Law:
Romans 7:7 Well then, am I suggesting that the law of God is sinful? Of course not!bIn fact, it was the law that showed me my sin. I would not have known that coveting is wrong if the law had not said, “You must not covet.
The Gospel:
Romans 8:3 NKJV For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh,
Romans 9:16
It is not of him that willeth nor is it of him that runneth but of God who shows mercy
To apply the gospel to self, we must believe and agree with God's account of us.
Romans 7:18 NLT
And I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. I want to do what is right, but I can’t.
I am not good, but I am loved. Or better still, I am not good, yet I am loved.
You cannot earn it.
Before they were born, before they did anything good or evil…
Acceptance of this truth will mark a turnaround in our Christian walk.
1 Timothy 1:15-16 NLT
This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it: “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners”—and I am the worst of them all.
16 But God had mercy on me so that Christ Jesus could use me as a prime example of his great patience with even the worst sinners. Then others will realize that they, too, can believe in him and receive eternal life.
Receive by faith all that God has given
Isaiah 1:19
If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good of the land.
Obeying God is difficult, yet that is not a valid or acceptable excuse before God.
Jeremiah 1:6-10
“O Sovereign Lord,” I said, “I can’t speak for You! I am too young!”
7 The Lord replied, “Don’t say ‘I’m too young,’ for you must go wherever I send you and say whatever I tell you.
8 And don’t be afraid of the people, for I will be with you and will protect you. I, the Lord, have spoken!”
9 Then the Lord reached out and touched my mouth and said,
“Look, I have put My words in your mouth!
10 Today, I appoint you to stand up against nations and kingdoms.
Some you must uproot and tear down, destroy and overthrow.
Others you must build up and plant
Philippians 2:13
God works in us both to will and to do His good pleasure.
Philippians 4:13
I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.
Call That not common which I have called uncommon
