Intercessors, Sent Up!

Colossians 4:2

Devote yourselves to praying with an alert mind and a thankful heart.

The Lord told me to raise intercessors.

Raising Intercessors means to wake them up.

Raising intercessors means to train them up.

Raising intercessors means to fire them up.

Raising intercessors means to send them up.

Romans 8:26 NLT —

We must all enroll in  the school of prayer, no matter how long we have been praying.

God wants to teach us again and again, deeper and deeper, more and more about prayers.

1 Corinthians 13:11-12

Sent up…

Mark 3:13-15

And He went up on the mountain and called to Him those He Himself wanted. And they came to Him.

14 Then He appointed twelve, that they might be with Him,  and that He might send them out to preach,

15 and to have power to heal sicknesses and to cast out demons:

Intercessors are called up to an elevated position.

The call of God is always an upward calling. Status in the physical world may remain unchanged,  but there is an elevation in the Spirit.

Among those called, some are appointed for three purposes: companionship,  representation and authority.

  1. Companionship/Fellowship

"That they might be with Him."

The call to intercession is a practical call.

There are many practical benefits  to intercession.

However, the call to intercession is first and foremost, a love proposal.

God has always desired fellowship with man. Not merely a need-based relationship, but a call to mutual enjoyment.

1st Catechism Question

1. What is the chief end (purpose) of man?

Answer: Man’s chief end (purpose) is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever.

God fellowshipped with man in the garden, hence  Adam was familiar with His voice.

Genesis 3:8-10

When the cool evening breezes were blowing, the man and his wife heard the Lord God walking about in the garden. So they hid from the Lord God among the trees.

9 Then the Lord called to the man, “Where are you?”

10 He replied, “I heard You walking in the garden, so I hid. I was afraid because I was naked.”

Revelation 21:3

I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among His people. He will live them and they will be His people. God Himself will be with them.

God fellowships with intercessors.

Jesus is seated at the right hand of the Father, making intercession for us.

The Holy Spirit know the heart of the Father

Hebrews 7:24-25

But because Jesus lives forever, His priesthood lasts forever.

25 Therefore He is able once and forever to save those who come to God through Him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf.

1 Corinthians 2:11

No one can know a person’s thoughts except that person’s own spirit, and no one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit.

Genesis 18:17-19

People fall into one of two categories: those who love God and those who use God. God knows the difference.

Job loved God. He proved it when he lost everything.

Job 2:9-10

David loved God.  He proved it by his prayer in Psalm 51:10-11

Peter loved Jesus. Judas used Jesus.

God enjoys the company of those who have learnt to enjoy Him the most.

To love is to seek to please.

We love God by our obedience.

These people draw near to Me with their lips…

If you love Me, keep My commandments

God reserves His best for those who enjoy being with Him.

Eyes have not seen…

All things work together for good for those who love God.

Praise God from Whom all blessings flow

  1. Representation

"that He might serve them out to preach."

They become His representatives. They speak for Him, and not for themselves.

Mark 16:20

And they went out and preached everywhere,  the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs.  Amen.

Intercessors have access to God.  Through their access, they learn the heart of God.  When they pray, they pray the mind God.

Mathew 6:10

Thy kingdom come

Thy will be done on earth

As it is in heaven.

When they speak, they speak the mind of God.

1 Peter 4:11

  1. Authority

"and to have power to heal sicknesses and to cast out demons."

Intercessors are called to warfare.

Intercessors are equipped for healing and deliverance.

2. Healing…

Sickness and disease is a disturbance of the proper order and functioning of a body. Healing is a restoration of thay order. To procure healing, there is always an intervention necessary in the form of medications, vitamins, surgery etc.

The greatest sickness is sin. Sin disturbs the proper balance of relationship between God and man, between man and man, and between man and nature.

Intercession is an intervention aimed to restore the proper order.

3. Deliverance

The forceful removal of disease bearing pathogens from the human spirit and environment.

What are pathogens?

A pathogen is an organism that causes disease.

Your body is naturally full of microbes. However, these microbes only cause a problem if your immune system is weakened or if they manage to enter a normally sterile part of your body.

Pathogens are different and can cause disease upon entering the body.

All a pathogen needs to thrive and survive is a host. Once the pathogen sets itself up in a host’s body, it manages to avoid the body’s immune responses and uses the body’s resources to replicate before exiting and spreading to a new host.

Pathogens can be transmitted a few ways depending on the type. They can be spread through skin contact, bodily fluids, airborne particles, contact with feces, and touching a surface touched by an infected person.

  • Medical Science has the cure for many physical diseases, but for spiritual malady, only the power of Jesus is effective.

  • A lifestyle of unrepented sin, opens the door for spiritual pathogens.

Romans 6:16-18

One of the most effective tools for deliverance is sincere repentance.

Romans 12:1-2

Ecclesiastes 10:8 NLT —

When you dig a well,

you might fall in.

When you demolish an old wall,

you could be bitten by a snake.

Judas exposed himself and Satan entered him.

Luke 22:2-6

PRAYERS

  1. 1 Peter 2:11

Lord, deliver all the intercessors from every lust that war against my soul … lust of the flesh, of the eye and the pride of life.

  1. Lord help us close every door that you have not opened.

When You start Interceding, Expect Pushbacks, Opposition, Counter-Attacks

John 15:18-21

Don't be surprised at attacks against your health, your finances, or harmony within your family.

They are designed to delay, distract and discourage.

Daniel 10:10-14

Luke 18:1

Another strategy of the devil is to make a quick withdrawal.

This is designed to beguile into a false sense of victory or quick success so that one does not tarry long in prayer and develop tenacity in prayer.

PRAYERS

  1. Lord grant intercessors the grace to pray without ceasing.

  2. Lord, help our faith to keep praying, even when answers are delayed.

  3. Lord, help intercessors to focus on you and not be distracted by the noise of the wind.

  4. Lord, don't let success lull intercessors into lukewarmness.
