Why Does God Give Grace? What is His Purpose?
Grace is the infusion/transfusion of God into man. It is the Presence of God in a man’s life, evidenced by the display of supernatural ability given for the purpose of bringing glory to God.
Why does God give grace?
Grace is given, not for man’s benefit, but for God’s glory.
Grace is not given to make men feel good… even though it does.
Healing of the sick, miraculous supply and all other evidence of Grace bring great benefits to man, but that is not their intended purpose.
Grace is not given to make you rich and famous.
Grace must not be confused with your natural gifts.
Your natural gifts may earn you a living, make you a wealthy celebrity, or even cure cancer which will bring immense relief to many sufferers and their loved ones. However, we must not conflate natural gifts with Grace. The difference is in the purpose for which grace and gifts are given.
If we forget the purpose of Grace, we will misuse the grace of God. A failure to understand this is at the root of many of the problems in the church today in at least three ways.
People come to church thinking it’s all about them and their needs.
When those needs are not met on their schedule, they are disappointed, with many withdrawing from the faith.
Many ministers under the pressure to make a show of meeting the needs of the people go into the occult.
John 12:23-29 NLT
John 12:23-29 NLT
Jesus replied, "Now the time has come for the Son of Man to enter into his glory. [24] I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat is planted in the soil and dies, it remains alone. But its death will produce many new kernels-a plentiful harvest of new lives. [25] Those who love their life in this world will lose it. Those who care nothing for their life in this world will keep it for eternity. [26] Anyone who wants to serve me must follow me, because my servants must be where I am. And the Father will honor anyone who serves me. [27] "Now my soul is deeply troubled. Should I pray, 'Father, save me from this hour'? But this is the very reason I came! [28] Father, bring glory to your name." Then a voice spoke from heaven, saying, "I have already brought glory to my name, and I will do so again." [29] When the crowd heard the voice, some thought it was thunder, while others declared an angel had spoken to him.
Grace is given to enable ordinary men to accomplish the impossible so that God can get glory in uncommon ways.
If I am committed to God’s glory, the pressure is off of me, because it is only by the release of His grace that glory can come to Him.
Doing the impossible brings God glory.
Whatever can be explained naturally, can also be explained away by human reasoning.
Matthew 9:8 LSB
But when the crowds saw this, they were afraid, and glorified God, who had given such authority to men.
When there is no natural explanation, men are perplexed and have to conclude that the finger of God accomplished it.
Luke 11:20 LSB
But if I cast out demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.
Everywhere grace is seen at work, the kingdom of God is in full display.
1 Corinthians 4:20
For the Kingdom of God is not just a lot of talk; it is living by God's power.
Romans 14:16-19 LSB
Therefore do not let what is for you a good thing be slandered; [17] for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. [18] For he who in this way serves Christ is pleasing to God and approved by men. [19] So then let us pursue the things which make for peace and the building up of one another.
