Our Imperfect Human Reasoning Versus God’s Perfect Will

As believers, straying from God's will and following our own hearts, as the world encourages, is one of the gravest mistakes we can make. When we place our imperfect human reasoning before God's perfect will, we set ourselves on a dangerous path.
Proverbs 14:12 (NLT) “There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death.”
Placing your own reasoning above God's is a rejection of His wisdom.
Proverbs 11:2 (NLT) “Pride leads to disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom”
We must be humble before the Lord and remember that we are not the Lord over our lives. Our decisions and thought processes must first filter though the Holy Spirit.
Galatians 5:16-17 (ESV): But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other to keep you from doing the things you want to do.”
Why is our human reasoning flawed:
1. We have limited knowledge; we don’t know it all
Human reasoning thinks it needs to help God out
o In her limited understanding Sarah thought it was a good idea to give her servant Hagar to her husband Abraham to try and speed up the promise of God.
Human reasoning believes God will not meet their needs.
2. Because of sin
Because of sin, our understanding to the ways and commands of God is skewed
Genesis 3:23-24 (NLT) “So the Lord God banished them form the Garden of Eden, and He sent Adam out to cultivate the ground from which he had been made. After sending them out, the Lord God stationed mighty cherubim to the east of the Garden of Eden. And He placed a flaming sword that flashed back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.”
3. Our emotions and passions get intertwined with our reasoning/logic causing us to be led astray.
Jeremiah 14:14 (NLT) “Then the Lord said “these people are telling lies in My name. I did not send them or tell them to speak. I did not give them any messages. They prophesy of visions and revelations they have never seen or heard. They speak foolishness made up in their own lying hearts.”
2 Timothy 4: 3-4 (NLT) “For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear. They will reject the truth and chase after myths.”
Dangers of trusting in our own logic and reasoning:
• Stops us from moving forward in faith
• Destroys the possibility of miracles
• Sets you up to be deceived
• Makes a person “God” in their life
• Keeps you from entering your Promise Land because your human reasoning sees all that giants that will keep you out
Proverbs 28:26 (ESV)
