Part 1 Why Christians Ask Why
Why Christians Ask Why
Tuesday May 28, 2024
Christians ask why when we are frustrated.
We ask why when life surprises us. SHOCK.
“Why is this happening to me?”
We ask why when life does not turn out the way we expected. DISAPPOINTMENT
“Why has this not happened for me?”
Shock is when the unexpected happens.
Disappointment is when the expected fails to happen.
Luke 24:21
God is at work both within the shocks and disappointments of our lives.
Romans 8:28 NLT
And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.
It doesn’t always seem so while we are going through, but with the benefit of hindsight, we can all attest to this truth.
The Unique Christian Frustration
Everybody in the world gets frustrated from time to time. There is a kind of frustration that you will only find with serious Christians.
Unserious Christians and the people of the world have their own frustrations, but they are of a different kind than the type under consideration.
Because we know that we are a different people, our expectations are uniquely different. When life deviates from our expected course, we are frustrated. The frustration is created because of the conflict between what ought to be and what actually is.
We are disappointed not because God failed to keep His promise, but because…
a) We misunderstand the promise
b) We do not know God as well as we should
c) We expect God to fulfill promises He never made.
A few misunderstood promises
Psalm 34:19 KJ21
Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.
2 Corinthians 12:9 KJ21
And He said unto me, "My grace is sufficient for thee, for My strength is made perfect in weakness."
Philippians 4:13 KJ21
I can do all things through Christ who strengtheneth me.
Philippians 4:19 KJ21
But my God shall supply all your need, according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
