  • Scriptures for Personal Evangelism

These bible verses emphasize the importance of personal evangelism and sharing the Gospel with others for all people have value.

1. The Great Commission

Matthew 28:19-20 KJV  Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen

Note: This is the heartbeat of Jesus, the “Great Commission “which is a command spoken in the scriptures and a directive to every believer.

“Ye” means you and me; we are to go and share the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ with everyone in and out of our circle. Start by sharing your personal testimony or favorite scriptures, one on one, with someone: your unsaved family member, coworker, Uber driver, neighbor, friend, or a perfect stranger. Look at it as a divine intervention, a God-given opportunity to save a soul.

Allow the Holy Spirit to help you speak up and speak out about the goodness of Jesus. How he saved you, made you brand new, washed you and made you whole.

Tell them about a God who refers to you in scripture

(1 Peter 2:9) as a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a Holy nation. We are set aside for we are God's own possession. Therefore, proclaim THE EXCELLENCIES OF HIM WHO CALLED YOU OUT OF DARKNESS INTO HIS MARVELIOUS LIGHT!

Be your own bold self. Be ready to be a witness for the Lord wherever and whenever God gives you opportunity.

  • An example of proclaiming the Good News of the gospel by Peter

Acts 2:29 -41 NIV 29 “Fellow Israelites, I can tell you confidently that the patriarch David died and was buried, and his tomb is here to this day. 30 But he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that he would place one of his descendants on his throne. 31 Seeing what was to come, he spoke of the resurrection of the Messiah, that he was not abandoned to the realm of the dead, nor did his body see decay. 32 God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of it. 33 Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear. 34 For David did not ascend to heaven, and yet he said, “‘The Lord said to my Lord:
    “Sit at my right hand

35 until I make your enemies
    a footstool for your feet.”’[
a]

36 “Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.” 37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”

38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”

40 With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.” 41 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.

2. Go and Tell

Mark 16: 14-15 NIV 14 Later Jesus appeared to the Eleven as they were eating; he rebuked them for their lack of faith and their stubborn refusal to believe those who had seen him after he had risen.15 He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

Note: Every believer is called to be a witness for the Lord! God's word teaches that every man, woman, boy or girl should hear the proclamation of the Good News of the Gospel. Every person should be invited to a transformative life through Jesus Christ. As children of the Most High God, we must  be prepared to have real spirit-led conversations, full of the love of God, with straight-from-the-heart compassion.

All we need to do is to be open to the Holy Spirit. Be available to depend on the Holy Spirit as our guide and our strength. Don’t even try to depend on yourself for what you might say or how you should respond. The Holy Spirit will give you what to say and let you know just how to say it.

  • An example of one-on-one evangelism – Jesus speaks to a Samaritan Woman

John 4:5-15, 19-25 7 When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Will you give me a drink?” 8 (His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.) 9 The Samaritan woman said to him, “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?” (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.[a])10 Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.” 11 “Sir,” the woman said, “you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water? 12 Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his livestock?”13 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”15 The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water.

19 The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.20 Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.21 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.

22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.24God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. 25 The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things. 26 Then Jesus declared, “I, the one speaking to you—I am he.”

3. Romans 10:13-17 NIV - Sharing God's Word

13 for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”14 How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? 1

15 And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” 16 But not all the Israelites accepted the good news. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our message?” 17 Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.

Notes: Sharing the gospel of hope, love, peace, salvation and Gods’ forever reign is a beautiful, life giving and a destiny changing experience. This scripture shares with us the importance of positive impact. As we share our faith, we are witnessing to others. As we recite the scriptures to them, they can hear the word of God. Urge them to trust God, call on Jesus, and believe in Him for salvation.

  • An example of sharing the Good News - Believe to receive – throw down your waterpot–

John 4:27-30, 39-42

27 Just then his disciples returned and were surprised to find him talking with a woman. But no one asked, “What do you want?” or “Why are you talking with her?” 28 Then, leaving her water jar, the woman went back to the town and said to the people, 29 Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Messiah?” 30 They came out of the town and made their way toward him.

39 Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me everything I ever did.” 40 So when the Samaritans came to him, they urged him to stay with them, and he stayed two days. 41 And because of his words many more became believers. 42 They said to the woman, “We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.”

  • An example of sharing the Good News of the Gospel - Philip and the Ethiopian

Acts 8:26-40 The Eunuch asked Philip, “Tell me, please, who is the prophet talking about, himself or someone else?” 35 Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus.

36 As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, “Look, here is water. What can stand in the way of my being baptized?” [37] [c38 And he gave orders to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptized him. 39 When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord suddenly took Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him again, but went on his way rejoicing. 40 Philip, however, appeared at Azotus and traveled about, preaching the gospel in all the towns until he reached Caesarea.

4. Always be ready to give an answer.”

 1 Peter 3: 12-18 KJV 12 For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.13 And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good?14 But and if ye suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled;

15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:16 Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.

17 For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing.18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:

Note: Apologetics - in Christian education there is a course for the discipline of defending religious doctrines through systematic argumentation and discourse. This method was utilized by those of the early Christian faith for what they wrote. Many times, they had to defend what they wrote to critics of their work, especially when they were recommending their faith to others, not in the church. These individuals were known as Christian apologists.

Like them, we make no apologies for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We say it like we mean it and mean it like we say it with all the boldness, power, and authority of the Holy Spirit. We communicate our message clearly and sincerely.

  • An example of God's warning to use about being ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ

Mark 8:34 -KJV  34 And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.35 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it.

36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?37 Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?38 Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.

  • An example of walking in victory – non apologetic, never ashamed – Paul to evangelize

Romans 1:14-18 14 I am obligated both to Greeks and non-Greeks, both to the wise and the foolish. 15 That is why I am so eager to preach the gospel also to you who are in Rome.

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. 17 For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last,[a] just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”[b

5. Supernatural Power

Acts 1:8 KJV 8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Note: This is the miracle working power of the Holy Spirit! It is your inheritance! Here, the saints are said to be witnesses for the Lord Jesus even in the face of danger and persecution. They are called to go anywhere in the world, without doubt or fear,  but giving their all in all to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ even if it costs them their lives.

Yes, missionaries and evangelists, ministers and preachers and some laymen go in faith to any place the Lord sends them for we are fully equipped with the authority and power of the Holy Spirit. Remember, we are never alone for Jesus will never leave nor forsake us.

2 Timothy 4:2-5 KJV 2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears. And they shall turn away their ears from the truth and shall be turned unto fables. But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.

Note: Paul encourages us as he encouraged Timothy to stand strong in the faith and rely on the Word of God. He instructs us to be available and prepared to share the Good News of the Gospel regardless as to the time, weather, political climate, circumstance or whether or not it’s convenient. People with itchy ears will seek pastors, churches or individuals who will condone their lifestyle. Even though that lifestyle is in total opposition to the written word of God, those folk with “itching ears” will find a soothing voice to listen to so that they can remain comfortable in the sin that they are in. An adulterous pastor will not, most likely, preach a sermon speaking out against adultery, nor a homosexual pastor speak out against homosexuality.

Luke 8:38-39 38 Now the man out of whom the devils were departed besought him that he might be with him: but Jesus sent him away, saying, 39 Return to thine own house, and shew how great things God hath done unto thee. And he went his way, and published throughout the whole city how great things Jesus had done unto him.

Note: When the Lord does anything for you, you ought to run and tell that! Spread the word that Jesus is a light in the darkness.

6. Encouragement for Evangelism

These verses highlight the call to evangelism and the importance of sharing the message of Jesus Christ with others. They encourage believers to be prepared to share their faith and to live out their beliefs authentically, demonstrating love and kindness in their interactions. By embodying the teachings of Christ, individuals can inspire others to seek a relationship with God.

Practicing Demonstrations:

  1. Remembering key verses – Addresses (Book, Chapter, Verse)

1 Corinthians 3:6 KJV

I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.

2. God adds to the church daily as he sees fit.
