Actively Seek God’s Wisdom

Tuesday, March 18, 2025

Rev. Nikkie Adams

What is Wisdom?

Wisdom is  insight into things that are beyond human perception.

It surpasses regular natural human ability.

Wisdom is to Fear God.

Wisdom is the True Foundation to knowing God.

Wisdom is Obeying God's commandments.

Psalms 111:10 NLT

Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true wisdom. All who obey his

commandments will grow in wisdom. Praise him forever!

TWO TYPES OF WISDOM

Man’s Wisdom (Earthly Wisdom): Wisdom from Below

God’s Wisdom (Spiritual Wisdom): Wisdom from Above

Spiritual Wisdom

James 3:13-18 NLT

[13] If you are wise and understand God’s ways, prove it by living

an honorable life, doing good works with the humility that comes

from wisdom. [14] But if you are bitterly jealous and there is selfish

ambition in your heart, don’t cover up the truth with boasting and

lying. [15] For jealousy and selfishness are not God’s kind of wisdom.

Such things are earthly, unspiritual, and demonic. [16] For wherever

there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and

evil of every kind. [17] But the wisdom from above is first of all pure.

It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others.

It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favoritism

and is always sincere. [18] And those who are peacemakers will plant

seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness.

Spiritual Wisdom (Wisdom from above)

  • Honorable

  • Pure

  • Merciful

  • Peace loving.

  • Does good works.

  • Puts others first.

  • Gentle

  • Humble

  • Unselfish

  • Not Jealous.

  • Sincere

  • Fair to all.

This reminds me of the Fruit of the Holy Spirit

Galatians 5:22-23 AMP

But the fruit of the Spirit [the result of His presence within us] is

love [unselfish concern for others], joy, [inner] peace, patience

[not the ability to wait, but how we act while waiting], kindness,

goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such things

there is no law.

When we have the Holy Spirit, the work His presence accomplishes

 in us.

Wisdom From Above

Fruit of the Spirit

Honorable

Pure

Merciful

Peace loving.

Yields good works.

Put others first.

Gentle

Humble

Unselfish

Not Jealous.

Sincere

Fair to all.

Love [unselfish concern for others],

Joy,

Peace,

Patience [not just the ability to wait, but how we act while waiting],

Kindness,

Goodness,

Faithfulness,

Gentleness,

Self-control.

Earthly Wisdom

Earthly wisdom that is unspiritual wisdom, the bible says is.

  • Demonic.

  • Envious

  • Full of Jealousy

  • Selfish

Man’s Wisdom

Man has lifted his own wisdom above God’s wisdom.

Man’s wisdom is foolishness and useless compared to God’s wisdom.

Man’s wisdom leads to evil and wickedness.

1 Corinthians 1:21 NLT

For the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God. As the scriptures

say” He traps the wise in the snare of their own cleverness”

1 Corinthians 3:19-20 NASB1995

[19] For the wisdom of this world is foolishness before God. For it is

 written, “He is the one who catches the wise in their craftiness”;

[20] and again, “The Lord knows the reasonings of the wise, that they

are useless.”

Proverbs 11:2 NLT

“When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is

Wisdom.”

Proverbs 11:2 AMP

When Pride comes [boiling up with an arrogant attitude of self-importance] then come dishonor and shame, but with the humble [the one teachable who have been chiseled by trial and who have learned to walk humbly with God] there is WISDOM and soundness of mind.

God’s Wisdom

Christ Is the Wisdom of God.

The book of Isaiah talks about the Spirit of wisdom. This is a prophecy Isaiah spoke concerning our Lord Jesus Christ.

Isaiah 11:2 NKJV

[2] The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom and understanding, The Spirit of counsel and might, The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.

1 Corinthians 1:24 NKJV

“But to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.”

We all have access to the wisdom of God because we have Christ, and we have the mind of Christ.

1 Corinthians 2:16

For “Who can know the Lord’s thoughts? Who knows enough to teach Him”? But we understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ.

We must humble ourselves and ask for Wisdom,

It is a teachable and willing Spirit that would ask for wisdom.

Do not lean on your own wisdom!

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
6 In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall [
b]direct your paths.

7 Do not be wise in your own eyes;
Fear the Lord and depart from evil.

Wisdom is the Paramount Thing.

Desire God's Wisdom!

Seek God's Wisdom!

Get God’s Wisdom!

Proverbs 4:7 NLT — Getting wisdom is the wisest thing you can do!

And whatever else you do, develop good judgment.

Proverbs 4:7 (AMP)

“The beginning of wisdom is: Get [skillful and godly] wisdom [it is

 preeminent]!
And with all your acquiring, get understanding [actively seek

spiritual discernment, mature comprehension, and logical

 interpretation].

While seeking Godly wisdom

  • `Actively seek discernment,

  • Seek mature comprehension,

  • Logical interpretation.

Ask For Wisdom

James 1:5-8 NLT

If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you.

He will not rebuke you for asking. [6] But when you ask him, be sure

that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with

divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown

and tossed by the wind. [7] Such people should not expect to receive

anything from the Lord. [8] Their loyalty is divided between God

and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do.

Proverbs 2:4

Cry out for insight,
    and ask for understanding.
4 Search for them as you would for silver;
    seek them like hidden treasures.
5 Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord,
and you will gain knowledge of God.
6 For the Lord grants wisdom!
From his mouth comes knowledge and understanding.
7 He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest.
He is a shield to those who walk with integrity.

The bible is full of people called Wise because

they applied Godly Wisdom.

Joseph  called Wise Leader – Act 7:10

Moses called  Wise Leader  - Acts 7:20 -22

Daniel called Wise Leader  1 Kings: 3:5 14

Wise men – Matt 2: 1- 12

Abigail  Called Wise  Wife 1 Sam 25:3

Stephen called Wise Leader  - Acts 6:1-10

Paul called Wise Messenger-  2 Peter 3:15-16

An example of someone who understood the importance of Wisdom.

I King 3: 4 -28 {Full story}

Only read from - vs. 5- 13

5 Now the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there, for that was

the great high place: Solomon offered a thousand burnt offerings

on that altar. 5 At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a

dream by night; and God said, “Ask! What shall I give you?”

6 And Solomon said: “You have shown great mercy to Your

servant David my father, because he walked before You in truth,

in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with You; You

have continued this great kindness for him, and You have given

him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day. 7 Now, O Lord my

God, you have made Your servant king instead of my father David,

but I am a little child; I do not know how to go out or come in.

8 And Your servant is in the midst of Your people whom You have

chosen, a great people, too numerous to be numbered or counted.

9 Therefore give to Your servant an [b]understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?”

10 The speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing. 11 Then God said to him: “Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked long life for yourself, nor have asked riches for yourself, nor have asked the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern justice, 12 behold, I have done according to your words; see, I have given you a wise and understanding heart, so that there has not been anyone like you before you, nor shall any like you arise after you. 13 And I have also given you what you have not asked: both riches and honor, so that there shall not be anyone like you among the kings all your days.

Why Should We Seek God's Wisdom?

We honor God when we seek His wisdom.

  • Seek Wisdom for long life, riches, and honor

(New Wine Promise of Joy, Abundance, Preservation, Healing)

Proverbs 3:13-18 NLT Joyful is the person who finds wisdom, the one who gains understanding. [14] For wisdom is more profitable than silver, and her wages are better than gold. [15] Wisdom is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. [16] She offers you long life in her right hand, and riches and honor in her left. [17] She will guide you down delightful paths; all her ways are satisfying. [18] Wisdom is a tree of life to those who embrace her; happy are those who hold her tightly.

Colossians 3:16 — Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts.

Proverbs 19:8

To acquire wisdom is to love yourself; people who cherish understanding will prosper.

Proverbs 2:6-12—For the Lord grants wisdom!
From his mouth comes knowledge and understanding.
7 He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest.
He is a shield to those who walk with integrity.
8 He guards the paths of the just
and protects those who are faithful to him.

9 Then you will understand what is right, just, and fair,
and you will find the right way to go.
10 For wisdom will enter your heart,
and knowledge will fill you with joy.
11 Wise choices will watch over you.
    Understanding will keep you safe.

12 Wisdom will save you from evil people,
from those whose words are twisted.

Proverbs 4:6 NLT - Don’t turn your back on wisdom, for she will protect you. Love her, and she will guard you.

God's wisdom when embraced and applied will be like the tree of life and a source of prosperity and richness and healing to your life.

  • Your interactions and your dealings will enrich the lives of people around you.

  • You will in wisdom be able to add value to others, not cause loss, you will be source provision.

  • There will be productivity and increase in all areas so much so there is abundance to reach out to other,

  • There will be physical and spiritual nourishment of body and soul (healing). You will be a source of joy and happiness. All to the Glory of God. Your words will bring comfort and healing to the weary (Isaiah 50: 40)

Desire God’s wisdom for yourself, desire God's wisdom for your children, pray for God's wisdom for those in leadership, more importantly pray God's wisdom over the body of Church, God's servants.

  • Seek God’s Wisdom to know when Speak or Not to Speak

Wisdom will give us the words to say at the right time.

Proverbs 17:27-28 NLT — A truly wise person uses few words.

a person with understanding is even-tempered. Even fools are thought wise when they keep silent.

with their mouths shut, they seem intelligent.

Proverbs 15:4 NLT— Gentle words are a tree of life; a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit.

Proverbs 15:2 The tongue of the wise makes knowledge appealing,
but the mouth of a fool belches out foolishness.

Proverbs 15: 7—The lips of the wise give good advice;
the heart of a fool has none to give.

Wisdom will remind us to seek the Holy spirit concerning EVERY situation,

Wisdom will tell us when to speak to situations or when not too.

Wisdom will tell you to take or reject advice.

Wisdom will teach us how to respond to avoid conflict.

Wisdom teaches us to be good listeners. Listening to others is wise, only a fool thinks his way is always the right way.

Wisdom will help to speak with caution, to give a soft response where necessary.

Wisdom will help us speak words of life to situations and not devious words that kill or break the spirit of a person.

  • Seek Wisdom to Build on the Right Foundation.

Ecclesiastes 7:12 NLT — Wisdom and money can get you almost anything, but only wisdom can save your life.

Ecclesiastes 7:12 NKJV — For wisdom is a defense as money is a defense, But the excellence of knowledge is that wisdom gives life to those who have it.

Matt 7:24-29 —Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. 25 Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. 26 But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. 27 When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.

The question is, on what foundation have you built your life?

Have you built your foundation on the wisdom and counsel of this world?

Have you built on your asserts, bank account, your job?

Have you built your life on Hollywood role models?

Build on the Solid Rock of Jesus Christ, who is the Wisdom of God!!!

The one who does this is called WISE!

Storms will come and shake things up but God has promised “Restoration” and because we have built on the solid foundation of Christ,  we will not be destroyed.

Seek Wisdom for Courage and Boldness

Under the leading of the Holy Spirit you will take bold steps that may appear silly, but the results will show that you were right in taking those bold steps.

When you have wisdom from above you will appear to be smarter than all.

You will speak with courage and appear like you know more than you really do.

The Wise Woman of Abel

2 Samuel 20:1-22

Story of a wise woman who was courageous and peace loving. She used wise words to save lives and prevent disaster.

2 Samuel 20:15-22 NLT

15 When Joab’s forces arrived, they attacked Abel-beth-maacah. They built a siege ramp against the town’s fortifications and began battering down the wall.

16 But a wise woman in the town called out to Joab, “Listen to me, Joab. Come over here so I can talk to you.”

17 As he approached, the woman asked, “Are you Joab?”

“I am,” he replied.

So, she said, “Listen carefully to your servant.”

“I’m listening,” he said.

18 Then she continued, “There used to be a saying, ‘If you want to settle an argument, ask advice at the town of Abel.’ 19 I am one who is peace loving and faithful in Israel. But you are destroying an important town in Israel. Why do you want to devour what belongs to the LORD?”

20 And Joab replied, “Believe me, I don’t want to devour or destroy your town! 21 That’s not my purpose. All I want is a man named Sheba son of Bicri from the hill country of Ephraim, who has revolted against King David. If you hand over this one man to me, I will leave the town in peace.”

“All right,” the woman replied, “we will throw his head over the wall to you.” 22 Then the woman went to all the people with her wise advice, and they cut off Sheba’s head and threw it out to Joab. So, he blew the ram’s horn and called his troops back from the attack. They all returned to their homes, and Joab returned to the king at Jerusalem.
