Pointing people to “the way, the truth, and the life!
A. The Reason:
According to Jesus, access to the Father is only possible through him.
A Prepared Place for a Prepared People
John 14:1-6 KJV: 14 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. 2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. 4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Believe and You Will Receive
John 3:16-20 NIV: 16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.
Brand New, Reconciled and assigned to be an Ambassadors for Christ
2 Corinthians 5: 10-21 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that everyone may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. 11 Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.
(manifest: to make clear or evident)
12 For we commend not ourselves again unto you, but give you occasion to glory on our behalf, that ye may have somewhat to answer them which glory in appearance, and not in heart. 13 For whether we be beside ourselves, it is to God: or whether we be sober, it is for your cause.14 For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: 15 And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again. 16 Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more.
17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
Restoring the breech: the act of repairing and rebuilding that which was broken to its previous state.
Repairing the damage until one is made whole again.
The restoration of broken relationships between God and humanity and man to man.
Removing the estrangement -deep rooted enmity – hostility, animosity, ill will, and hatred open or concealed, and vindictiveness to destroy what one hates.
19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
Question: What does Imputing mean? Not held against us. not credited, not attributed to us. He dropped the charges!
20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.
21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. Christ righteousness has been imputed (credited) to us.)
B. The Call
The Great Commission
Matthew 28:19-20 KJV - 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen
The Assignment, if you choose to accept it:
-----Go ye therefore (“Ye” is you and me) therefore is because of what Jesus has accomplished in his life on earth, on the cross and in heaven. Because of his great love for us:
John 3:16-20 NIV 16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.
-----Teach all nations – the word, will and the ways of God
-----Baptize them in the name of the Father, and the Son and of the Holy Ghost- seal them
-----Teach them to observe all things that I have commanded you and,
-----Lo, I am with you always, even unto the ends of the world (The promises of God are True and Unchangeable because God is a God who cannot lie. Hebrews 6:18 says its impossible for God to lie!
Note: Personal Evangelism – is effectively sharing your personal spiritual faith in Jesus Christ to win over souls for the kingdom of God. Speaking with confidence, simplicity and clarity, evangelism reaches the lost and the dead in Christ by offering them God’s plan of salvation in a clear, uncomplicated manner. It involves sharing the message of salvation with others, similar to how the disciples spread their beliefs when they became “fishers of men” for the kingdom of God.
Understanding the gospel – the word of the gospel is the means for which God uses to call each of his children from darkness into light.
a) This is the work God has given every believer to do. We represent him. We become ambassadors for Christ. Our goal is to bring men out of bondage, snatch them out of the hands of the enemy, out of self-destruction, out of hopelessness, sin, trespasses, and eternal damnation of their souls.
b) Our assignment is to give them the truth of Gods’ word. We invite them to replace hatred with love, sadness with joy, chaos and pain with peace and for weakness, God will replace that weakness with strength through faith in Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit through the word of God.
2. Be ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that it is in you. (1 Peter 3:15)
a) Explain to people why we believe what we believe and why we have such a hope in Jesus Christ.
b) Proclaim the excellencies of him who has called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
3. Who we are and why…
1 Peter 2:9 - But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light:
1 Peter 2:10 - Which intime past were not a people but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy
a) Chosen Generation – Christians are chosen by God and set apart for his special purpose.
b) Royal Priesthood – We have direct access to God through Jesus Christ- who is our Savior, Lord, Priest and King.
c) Holy Nation – We are set apart as God’s devoted people choosing to display Gods holiness, and love for all mankind.
d) We are Gods special possession – we are brought with a price – the blood of Jesus Christ paid it all. We are God’s possessions. We belong to the Father and we are loved and cherished by him.
4. We are known as ambassadors for Christ, ministers of reconciliation - As Christians we speak of the greatness, the holiness, and the grace of God.
a) Be prepared by studying the word (2 Timothy 2:15).
b) The Christian faith must be shared openly and sincerely. We share the gospel message with everyone and anyone of any faith because we do not know who God will save.
C. Engaging with nonbelievers/building relationships with Christ with the word of God.
Harvesting souls for Gods’ Kingdom
Proverbs 11:30 KJV: The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.
Proverbs 9:10 KJV: The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
Ask God for wisdom, knowledge and understanding.
Wisdom – to discern Gods will and purpose for your life.
To make wise decisions
To live a life that honors him
To be a witness to others
Knowledge – to better understand God’s word and all that he is creating.
To lay hold of spiritual truths and learn how to apply them.
Of how to pray for the Holy Spirit to lead, guide and teach us.
Of insight into the supernatural ability of the Holy Spirit to illuminate the scriptures as you spend time in the word of God.
Ask the Holy Spirit:
To help you grasp the full magnitude of the divine act of love by Jesus Christ;
To give you a deeper understanding of the realities of the HolySpirit, how the Holy spirit can enlighten the mind to reveal deeper meanings and applications of God's Holy Word.
Understanding – comprehending the spiritual truths
To learn from the Holy Spirit, Divine insight into the spiritual significance of biblical text: people, events, locations and activities
Ask God for divine inspiration – he has the authority to grant that.
Ask the Holy Spirit for divine illumination – For Jesus said, “I am the light that lighted all men.” This leads to transformation, spiritual growth and maturity.
Examples: Psalms 119:105 - Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
Psalm 119:1-18 KJV
Psalms 119:1-8 (He is asking for the blessing of the word of God.)
1 Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the Lord. 2 Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart.3 They also do no iniquity: they walk in his ways.4 Thou hast commanded us to keep thy precepts diligently. 5 O that my ways were directed to keep thy statutes! 6 Then shall I not be ashamed, when I have respect unto all thy commandments. 7 I will praise thee with uprightness of heart, when I shall have learned thy righteous judgments.8 I will keep thy statutes: O forsake me not utterly.
Psalms 119: 9-17 (His request is for personal holiness through the word.)
9 Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.
10 With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments.11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. 12 Blessed art thou, O Lord: teach me thy statutes.13 With my lips have I declared all the judgments of thy mouth.14 I have rejoiced in the way of thy testimonies, as much as in all riches.15 I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect unto thy ways.16 I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word.17 Deal bountifully with thy servant, that I may live, and keep thy word.
Psalms 119 :18 (A prayer and hunger for enlightenment- illumination of the word of God.)
18 Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law.
Every Christian is called to evangelise.
If you are ashamed of me then I will be ashamed of you when you stand in heaven before my father in heaven. We should never be afraid or ashamed to share the Gospel. Don’t be afraid of rejection. You can not open the heart of a man to have faith in Jesus Christ, only God can do that.
God draws, Jesus Christ saves, and the Holy Spirit teaches and seals us until the day of redemption.
God draws
John 6:44 KJV 44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
Note: Salvation is not just a human decision, but it requires Gods’ active involvement. This is believed to take place through the power and workings of the Holy Spirit who convicts us of our sins and allows us to hear the message of the word, repent, and accept Jesus into our hearts as our personal Lord and Savior.
2. Jesus Saves
Matthew1:21-23 KJV 21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
Romans 10:10-13 KJV 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
3. The Holy Spirit Seals
Ephesians 1:2-14KJV 2 Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: 4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: 5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. 7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; 8 Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence; 9 Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself: 10 That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him: 11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: 12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. 13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.
Note: Once we are saved, our steps are ordered in truth by Jesus Christ, to follow and do the commands of the ‘Great Commission”!
